Back to glossary

A long-tail keyword is a specific, multi-word search query with relatively low search volume. Long-tail keywords are easier to rank for than head terms and tend to convert better because they capture more specific intent. Collectively, long-tail queries can drive significant traffic.

Why it matters

Long-tail keywords offer less competition and higher conversion rates, making them valuable for new or niche sites.

Example

"best running shoes for flat feet" is a long-tail keyword, while "running shoes" is a head term.
