PageRank is Google's original algorithm for measuring page importance based on incoming links. Named after Larry Page, it assigns a score to each page based on the number and quality of links pointing to it. While Google stopped publishing visible PageRank scores in 2016, a version of PageRank is still used internally.

Common misconceptions

  • PageRank is dead — a version is still used internally, though the public Toolbar PageRank was discontinued.
