Definition
GEO — Generative Engine OptimizationGenerative search is a search paradigm where results are synthesized by AI models rather than retrieved from a traditional index of pages. Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT search, and Perplexity are examples. Generative search combines retrieval (finding relevant pages) with generation (synthesizing answers from those pages).
